Congratulations!

The Confirmation Team would like to congratulate everyone on receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation.

DVDs containing photos of the ceremony will be available for everyone at the next Evening Session.

Please note:

There is no class April 25.

There are two final classes: May 2 & May 16. We look forward to seeing everyone on these last two classes.

If any certificate has a mistake, please return the certificate with the corrections made on it to the general office and a new one will be printed.

Hello Candidates, Sponsors, & Parents:

As you are well aware Confirmation is quickly approaching, here is some information regarding the upcoming events.

CANDLELIGHT SERVICE - Sunday April 18

Candidates and sponsors are required to attend the candlelight service, if for any reason a Candidate or Sponsor cannot attend (i.e. medical emergency, or out of town) please let us know via email response.

Parents are highly encouraged to attend this evening.

Please complete this form: www.tinyurl.com/pizzaDinner by Friday April 16 to help us estimate the amount of pizza to order.

Candlelight Evening Schedule

5:30pm -6:30 pm pizza dinner
*There will be a $5 charge per person to help cover the cost of food*

6:45 - 7:30 Candlelight Service
*unlike stated earlier the candidates are not required to bring their baptismal candles, candles will be provided for all for the service*
7:45 - 8:30 Confirmation Rehearsal

CONFIRMATION - Thursday April 22

All Candidates and Sponsors are asked to meet in the Parish Hall (in the basement) at least 45 minutes before Mass (ie by 6:45 PM).

We ask that all Candidates and Sponsors dress in a respectful manner.

After the Confirmation Mass, all candidates, sponsors, parents, family, and friends are invited to a reception in the Parish Hall.

We request that two sponsors volunteer to do the readings during the Confirmation Mass. If you are interested in volunteering please email us back ASAP.

If the Candidates have not submitted their letter to Monsignor, they are welcome to drop it off throughout the week at the General Office.

Letter to Monsignor

Letters are to be handed into the SJB Parish Office.

As we approach Confirmation an important component of preparation is a reflection and discernment. Traditionally the Candidates are asked to write a letter to Monsignor expressing their desire to be confirmed. These letters can be of any length, format, or design. What is important is they convey and articulate in some fashion the importance of being Confirmed to you, and a reflection on your desire to be Confirmed.

Here are some ideas to consider as you write your letters:

“Where has God interacted with me in my life?:

“Why do I desire a deeper relationship with God and his Church?"

“Who is God calling me to be?”

“What does it mean to be an active Catholic?”

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask any of the Confirmation leaders, we are here to help you as you prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation.

As the letters are intended for Monsignor we ask that you return them to the Conformation leaders in a sealed envelope. The Confirmation leaders will respect your privacy. We request that all letters be returned for the Confirmation class on March 21.

Lenten Reconciliation Services

The Sacrament of Reconciliation can be given by any priest. They usually will even administer it any time you ask them.

St John Brebuef offers the Sacrament of Reconciliation weekly Saturday 4:15 - 4:45, and by appointment.

"This Lent we are again invited to join in renewing our journey as Catholic Christians on the path to holiness.

"Holiness means being like God the Father, who is merciful (Luke 6:36).

"Holiness means being lovingly obedient like Jesus. Holiness means to live as one guided by the Holy Spirit.

"St. Francis de Sales teaches that the path to holiness will be different according to one’s state in life. It will be exercised today in different ways by the investment broker, the scientist, the minimum wage worker; by the politician and the teacher; by those widowed, young people, parents of young children and the clergy.

"So, the quest for holiness needs to be adapted to the strength, activities, and duties of each particular person.

"With this in mind, we find Lent offers us three traditional means to draw near to God: prayer, fasting and almsgiving."

Are Catholics to abstain from meat on Fridays?: The official position is that abstinence on Fridays is the norm for all Catholics between the ages of 15 and 59 inclusive, but the Bishops Conference here has determined that Catholics in Canada may substitute some other pious exercise or act of charity on all Fridays of the year, with the exception of Good Friday.

This is a reminder the Confirmation Retreat is on Saturday February 6.

The retreat runs from 9:30am - 4:45pm followed by Mass at 5:00pm. Parents are encouraged to attend the 5:00 Mass.

Confirmands should bring a lunch for the day. Snacks will be provided in the morning and afternoon.

Please bring questions to the retreat as there will be ample time for Q&A.

Contrary to the bulletin, Commitment Sunday only occurs at the 11:30am Mass at SJB.
Candidates are to collect their prayer cards from the table at the back of the Church just prior to the 11:30 Mass.
If your sponsor is unavailable to attend someone else may fill in for them.
If you are unable to attend, please inform the Confirmation Team. (contact info here)
